Commentary

Both the greeting and the closing are personalized with the reader’s and writer’s names. However, this letter represents a much more established, committed relationship, which is reflected in the longer, more elaborate wording. Further, the closing clearly identifies the nature of the relationship (husband and wife).

The first paragraph immediately expresses love, an appropriate opening for a committed, marital relationship. This paragraph also alludes to sexual activity in the reference to the night hours, but remains non-specific regarding actual activities. While necessary for this general audience, your own letters when in a committed relationship can be steamier and more explicit IF you know that the recipient would appreciate and enjoy it. Remember, however, that anything memorialized in writing has the potential for eventual discovery (by children, or even grandchildren!).

The second paragraph refers to the reader’s hobby or personal interest (dancing) to establish positive traits that are admired in other settings (specifically, the bedroom, in this case), and also tells the reader of the emotional effect she has on her husband. The last paragraph again looks into the future, anticipating both length and permanence from the relationship (always and forever).
